The artistic heart of the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse is the art project “Artist in Hotel Residence”. The studio on the ground floor is available as a work space for invited artists. At the end of their stay, artists in residence donate a work to the hotel’s art collection.

Like every summer, four international artists are invited to take part in a vibrant residency. They stay at the hotel and transform the Atelier into their personal studio space.
To wrap things up, Open Studio events offer a glimpse behind the scenes. Visitors are welcome to drop by, discover the artworks created during the residency, meet the artists, and enjoy cheesecake, snacks, and a glass of bubbly.

Alexandra Karpilovski, Stockholm
7 — 20 July 2025

Open Studio on Saturday, July 19th, 4 –7pm

Amos Angeles, co-founder and curator of ice cream project, about the Artist in Hotel Residence:

“Alexandra Karpilovski’s work moves fluidly between raw instinct and poetic precision, merging drawing, text, and installation into an expressive, deeply personal language. Like dancing, she creates fragmented narratives that explore identity, loneliness, human desire, and emotional chaos, always lustfilled, urgent, and charged with wit.

Her spaces invite introspection, offering a place for contemplation and relaxation, where borders dissolve into a sense of permanent vacation.

Knowing her personally, I see her flowy, dynamic approach as a vibrant match for diverse contexts, both inside the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse and exhibiting inside the mobile exhibition space ice cream project.”

Xinyu Han, Shanghai
21 July — 3 August 2025

Open Studio on Saturday, August 2nd, 4 – 7pm

David Iselin, co-owner of Modern Animals Gallery, about the Artist in Hotel Residence:

“We discovered Xinyu Han when we were looking at graduation works from the painting class at the Slade School in London. Xinyu’s work stands out for ist cinematographic quality. Including scenes of the night, passing cars, people in a single moment. The Images attract those who have seen the night, but not only. They tell us something about existence, about the now.

A conversation quickly ensued, which led to a solo exhibition at our gallery. Thanks to the residency at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, we are able to continue this dialogue in Zurich, which Xinyu and we are incredibly happy about. We will dive into the Zurich art scene with her and see where it takes us.”

Alisa Pidverbna and Andrii Nekraha, Kharkiv, currently based in Lucerne
4 — 17 August 2025

Open Studio Saturday, August 16th, 4 –7 pm

Marina Belobrovaja about the Artists in Hotel Residence:

“The artists Andrii Nekraha and Alisa Pidverbna, both 20 years old, come from Kharkiv, Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, they have been living in Europe and surviving through their art.

Their predominantly painterly works are characterised by personal experiences from this time and exemplify the reality of an entire generation of young people from Ukraine.

The artist residency in the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse offers them the wonderful opportunity to network with the Zurich art scene and escape their challenging everyday lives for a while.”

Roy Menachem Markovich, Tel Aviv
18 — 31 August 2025

Open Studio on Saturday, August 30th, 4 –7pm

Esther Eppstein, founder of message salon embassy, about the Artist in Hotel Residence:

“Artist in Hotel Residence is a wonderful opportunity for me to cultivate long-standing artistic friendships and invite artists to return to Zurich.

The Israeli artist Roy Menachem Markovich has already shown his profound and humorous videos, sculptures and installations in several exhibitions and performances in the city, including at the message salon art space in the legendary Perla-Mode on Langstrasse in 2012.

During his current artist residency, the multimedia artist finds the material to create art from waste such as cardboard, old bread, scraps of paper, electronic waste or pieces of wood and metal in the treasure trove around and on Langstrasse.”

Esther Eppstein

Artist in Hotel Residence is curated by Esther Eppstein, an artist based in Zurich. Esther Eppstein is known in the Zurich art scene for her 30 years of work with the art project message salon. She has received several awards for her artistic and curatorial practice, including the Grand Prix Meret Oppenheim 2021, the Swiss Federal Art Award.
