Amos Angeles, curator of the mobile art space “ice cream project,” on the artist, with whom he has a long-standing friendship:

“Alexandra Karpilovski combines drawing, text, and installation in an expressive, playful, and humorous way. These are personal narratives and self-observations about identity, loneliness, human desire, and emotional chaos.”

Alexandra Karpilovski is working at the hotel on her solo show “Wiggle a Little” in the “ice cream project,” a truck whose cargo area is sporadically transformed into an art space. In the studio, the artist paints everyday objects such as parasols, riding boots, lampshades, bath towels, and briefcases with dancing women, texts, and faces, and installs these objects inside the truck to create an intimate, poetic scenography. In the Open Studio, the artist also presents drawings that capture her stay at the hotel, her thoughts, and observations in the style of a poetic diary—with sweeping, lively lines drawn directly onto paper with felt-tip pen or black ink.
