MILANO 25

Ambassador of Solidarity

Milan 25 is a particularly colourful and extraordinary taxi in Florence, driven by Caterina Bellandi. She used to work in an office, but after the death of her partner Stefano, a taxi driver, she took over his taxi ‘Milan 25’. This was initially a reaction to her personal pain, but soon her work developed into a source of love and commitment to others.

In 2002, Caterina met a family whose daughter had died of a brain tumour. This encounter led her to start providing free rides for children with cancer and their families. Caterina refers to these children as ‘superheroes’, whom she immortalised as cartoon characters on her taxi. Her taxi became a symbol of hope and solidarity.

Caterina is not just an ordinary taxi driver, but a life-affirming personality who supports people in difficult life situations with her colourful, unique taxi. She is known for her ability to listen and for the joie de vivre she radiates in every moment of her work.

She was named ‘Ambassador of Solidarity’ for Florence in 2007 and received an award for her commitment in 2012. Milan 25 eventually became a non-profit organisation (Onlus) that supports people in need. Caterina is a woman who has transformed her own grief into love and hope for others and works tirelessly for the good of others.

The 25hours Hotel Piazza San Paolino in Florence supports Caterina with free accommodation and food and drinks for her guests. Some of her products are also offered and sold in the hotel shop.
