If the old town is giving you slight theme park vibes, you’re on the right track. Mostly destroyed in 1944, then hosting the rather despised concrete structure known as Technisches Rathaus (technical town hall) for a few decades, the old town has just been rebuilt on original plans, opening to the public in 2018. Start exploring at Römer and head east towards a building known as Haus zur Goldenen Waage (house of the golden scale). Overall, less rollercoasters than Phantasialand though.
