Hotel makers — two hotels for twice as much Zurich
Sunday’s back again …
A long jog along the banks of Lake Zurich and then a visit to Enge Swimming Area. They have a wonderful sauna right by the waterside where you can freshen up with a dip in the lake in summer and winter – after visiting the sauna. Another of my favourite spots by the water is Michel Peclard’s Fischer’s Fritz. You can enjoy the best deep-fried whitefish – called Fischknusperli – in the city and the relaxed atmosphere in the beautiful lakeside scenery.
— Enge Swimming Area. Mythenquai 9 / next to Hafen Enge, 8002 Zurich
— Fischer’s Fritz. Seestrasse 559, 8038 Zurich
Don’t miss!
The beautiful windows by Marc Chagall catch the eye in Fraumünster Church, right at the heart of Zurich. The ones behind the organ were designed by Giacometti, an artist of no lesser standing than Chagall.Visitors can marvel at another art form in the immediate vicinity, this time of the culinary variety. The richly traditional Restaurant Kronenhalle has served classical cuisine since 1924, enchanting its guests with amazing kitchen artistry.A boat trip across Lake Zurich is another must-do, and the best way is on a Pedrazzini runabout.
— Fraumünster Church. Münsterhof 2, 8001 Zurich
— Kronenhalle. Rämistrasse 4, 8001 Zurich
Food and drink
Deeply traditional without being outdated, the Restaurant Kindli exudes amazing warmth, style and sophistication. Their traditional Zürcher G’schnätzelte is among the best. The wine is delectable and the landlady a delight. Also worth sampling is the espresso at La Stanza, where the interior design adds noticeably to the flavour. The Raclette Stube is a perfect sanctuary for guests driven indoors by the wind and the weather. The raclette and fondue are as good as anything in west Switzerland.
— Kindli Restaurant. Pfalzgasse 1, 8001 Zurich
— La Stanza. Bleicherweg 10, 8001 Zurich
— Raclette Stube. Zähringerstrasse 16, 8001 Zurich
À propos winter …
Marvelling at snow-covered mountains from afar isall very well, but actually experiencing the winter paradise is the far better option. Visitors simply headto Zurich Central Station and take the SBB and the beautiful Rhätische Bahn to the Grisons region. Andit’s just a short hop from there to the mountains. The choice is yours: From Lenzerheide to Flims, Davos, Arosa, Engadin and many more.
