Mr. Brahe our wise old Owl
Our wise old owl — is most comfortable nestled between books and cushions.
The namesake — a brief history
Long before our building was constructed as a paper factory in 1884, there was a round tower net door. And before the round tower was opened in 1642, there lived Tycho Brahe — one of the most important astronomers in history. Tycho was born in the 16th century and devoted himself to the stars. Even without a telescope, he was able to use new measuring devices to make reliable measurements. His theories laid the foundation for, among others, the theories of Isaac Newton. The round tower was built to replace Tycho Brahes observatory, which was destroyed after his death. AAccording to the story, the construction method and dimensions of the tower were based on Brahe’s observatory. Later the tower was used by the University of Copenhagen. Although he was never there, his bust adorns the entrance to the tower // and his drawing can now be found in many of our Knowledge rooms.
For little scientists
Naturally, the first thing to do is to take a historical trip up the tower. From the viewing platform of the Round Tower, you can see the city from above. Tivoli Gardens are a special destination for day trips for young and old alike. Opened in the 1840s, they are one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. If you have a bit more time, you can take the Metro for a day trip to the Danish National Aquarium.
