Esther Eppstein from message salon on Roy Menachem Markovich: “Artist in Hotel Residence is a wonderful opportunity to cultivate long-standing friendships with artists. Roy Menachem Markovich has already shown his profoundly humorous videos, sculptures, and installations in solo exhibitions in Zurich at my art space in the legendary Perla-Mode on Langstrasse in 2012 and 2013.”

The artist finds his materials, such as cardboard, electronic waste, and pieces of wood, plastic, and metal, in the gold mine that is Langstrasse or at the Kanzlei flea market. These materials are used to create precariously assembled, dadaistically playful sculptures. The objects are reminiscent of trophies and awards, or models for monuments. Each sculpture is a statement made from used materials that bear scratches and wounds and have been worked by hand by the artist with a saw, adhesive tape, or hot glue, and screwed together with will and force.

On the occasion of the artist’s residency at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, message salon is publishing a fanzine with Roy Menachem Markovich, which will celebrate its premiere in the hotel’s open studio.
