Opened in 1877, the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) is one of Europe’s leading design museums. Its unique collection ranges from antiquity to the innovations of the present day and encompasses European, East Asian and Islamic cultural spaces. Among them are spectacular highlights such as the Spiegel Canteen (1969) by Danish designer Verner Panton, the Art Nouveau ensemble “Pariser Saal” (circa 1900) and the impressive light object “Shylight” by the artist duo DRIFT.
Numerous exhibitions, events and projects open the eyes to social development and question the design of the world. In addition to aesthetic and entertaining themes, the focus is increasingly on socio-political issues revolving around the environment, sustainability and speculative visions of the future.
