David Iselin, co-owner of Modern Animal Gallery, on the collaboration with Artist in Hotel Residence: „The Artist Residence enables our young gallery to initiate a project with Louis Lanne and Rose Ras outside the usual exhibition programme.’’

Louis Lanne’s paintings are multi-layered and narrative; inner images and dreams appear in figures, clouds of colour and signs on magnetic whiteboards, such as those commonly used in offices or schools. Integrated magnets are moving pictorial elements. The painting, influenced by comics and graffiti, is colourful, intuitive and full of meticulous dedication.

Rose Ras practises painting, sculpture and multimedia objects. Her expressive-abstract paintings on wood or canvas are memories of childhood in Haiti and landscapes of light and colour, harassed and violated by hard materials, such as a car tyre made of clay, as a symbol of man’s violent intervention in nature. Rose Ras is currently a student at the Beaux-Arts de Paris; following her residency, she has been invited to participate in a group exhibition at Modern Animals Gallery in September 2024.
