Schlafleu

Isn’t it just wonderful when the hotel room is not empty? The Zurich Schlafleu waits patiently in its cage in the room for you to come back, looking forward to a cuddle. The mascot watches over you. It comes to life especially at night to ward off bad dreams. But it has also put together the best tips for a fun day in Zurich.

Natur pur

When the sun’s out: head up to Uetliberg! Fresh air, stunning views, and the Planetenweg — a hiking trail that maps out the solar system at a 1:1 billion scale. When it rains: dive into the Zoological Museum at the University of Zurich. A cabinet of curiosities meets science — think taxidermy from every continent, fossils, and fun interactive exhibits. Bonus: admission is free! A walk along the Letten is always a good idea. In summer, make sure to stop by Gump — possibly Zurich’s most charming mini beer garden by the water. Cold drinks, chill vibes, and the Limmat flowing right next to you. Year-round favourite: Nude. A hidden oasis by the river with bagels, bowls, and cocktails. From there, stroll on into District 4: great food, indie shops, and colourful flea markets. Urban flair meets nature — just how we like it.

— Gump am Wasser. Lettenviadukt, 8005 Zurich (summer only)

Raubtierfütterung

While it does not offer meat, the Tibits in the NZZ Bistro serves vegetarian fare for young and old and lets its guests pick their own menu to make sure they like what they have on their plates. There’s also a small play corner and enough space for buggies and to change nappies. Kafi für Dich is just round the corner from our hotel: it has a great brunch on Sundays, and the XXL blackboard at the end of the bar is an inviting place to leave creative musings after a visit or even between helpings. Grünwald, a family-owned restaurant on the fringes of Zurich, is a lovely location to linger. Guests can dine in the restaurant or out in the forest kiosk before heading off for some fun and games on the large, modern playground connected to the establishment.

Knie Kids’ Zoo might not be in Zurich, but it is easy to reach by public transport. Open from March to October, it is a heart-warming experience to spend some time petting animals. The Alpamare aquapark offers all-year fun for families. The 1,800 metres of waterslides in Europe’s biggest indoor water park guarantee a rush of adrenalin, while more sedate visitors will find what they crave in the numerous pools and rest zones. The best way to get to the other side of the Lake Zurich is by boat – enjoy the mountain vistas while chugging across the waters. Contact reception to find out the exact departure times.
